Staying at Dusit Thani Kyoto Hotel: A Guest's Review

Having recently returned from a memorable stay at Dusit Thani Kyoto Hotel, I'm excited to share my firsthand experience with fellow travelers planning their Kyoto adventures. Situated near Kyoto Station, this luxury hotel in Kyoto, Japan seamlessly blends traditional charm with contemporary elegance, offering guests an unforgettable retreat in the heart of the city.

The booking

The booking gods favored us the day we made reservations for this luxury hotel in Kyoto. There was a deal for Dusit Thani Kyoto since it had just opened a mere few months before our visit. I had never heard of the Dusit Thani hospitality group prior to this and was hesitant because the price was too good to be true. After researching them to confirm they’re a legitimate luxury hotel company, my husband and I quickly completed our reservation.

Exploring Dusit Thani Kyoto Hotel

Imagine my surprise to find out, as soon as I arrived, that Dusit Thani Kyoto Hotel exudes sophistication. From the moment I stepped into the property, I was enveloped in an atmosphere of tranquility and elegance. Its modern facade, infused with Japanese and Thai design elements, sets the stage for a truly immersive experience. As a guest, I was immediately struck by the hotel's seamless use of minimalist aesthetics and refined craftsmanship, a theme that carried through every aspect of my stay.

We were kindly greeted and welcomed with hot tea and warm hand towels, then escorted to our room. I was wide-eyed and elated as I admired the architectural and interior design details of the property.

The center courtyard was obviously gorgeous, as you’ll see in the photos below. I especially loved the intentional exposure of the taruki and the choice to leave its natural wood color. (The taruki are the parallel wood beams that support the roof. To be honest, I just Googled this term to learn what these beautiful things are.) The contrast against the darker roof was stunning. The courtyard was so serene I could hardly hear any sounds except for the rocks moving under my feet while I walked through the courtyard.

LUXURIOUS ACCOMMODATIONS

The accommodations, tastefully adorned with traditional Japanese motifs and modern amenities, provided a serene sanctuary amidst the bustling cityscape. During our booking, we opted for Dusit Thani Kyoto’s Premier Garden View room. It’s a whopping 40 sqm with a private little garden just outside of the room’s window. There was a welcome treat waiting for us on the dining table in the form of matcha milk beans, which were crunchy, mildly sweet, and glorious. I enjoyed them so much I got 10 bags from Nishiki Market as souvenirs.

The room includes a Nespresso machine with caffeinated and decaf pods, powdered milk packets, tea, and tableware hidden inside a chic and unassuming credenza. The bathroom is stylish and outfitted with their signature bath amenities. Our accommodation had a separate toilet room, which I liked (a design feature I’d like to add in my future home).

A chic spa in Kyoto

The hotel's spa was a haven of relaxation and provided a welcome retreat for my weary legs. They offer a range of indulgent treatments inspired by ancient healing traditions, such as massages and skincare services, and also have an indoor pool and a dry sauna. Having this spa in our Kyoto hotel exceeded my expectations, offering a level of rejuvenation that elevated my stay. The spa has gender-separated locker rooms, each area with its own dry sauna (fits 3 people) and showers.

Additionally, the knowledgeable concierge staff was always on hand to provide insider tips and recommendations, ensuring that every excursion was filled with unforgettable moments.
